DSTV is currently trending on Twitter and the reason is not far-fetched. DSTV subscribers have received a text disclosing a price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria as from 1st May, 2017.
Nigerians have already shown how dissatisfied they are with this, as they alleged that DSTV which is owned by Multichoice, is taking advantage of the monopoly in the market. It is also alleged the company said that for one to lock in his/her old rates, the subscriber has to pay for one year.
Meanwhile, DStv subscribers in South Africa have started a petition to remove the ANN7 news channel from DStv.
Petitioners are condemning the channel’s biased coverage of political events and are demanding that MultiChoice remove the Gupta-owned news channel from DStv’s offerings.
According to the petition page, the channel is creating divisions in South Africa due to its biased reporting.
Subscribers who signed the petition have voiced their displeasure with ANN7’s coverage, saying “it is a propaganda station, we should not have to pay for it” and “DStv must not aid fake news”. The petition is available to sign on Petitions24.
