Drama as DSS put National Pencom Commission Office Under Surveillance Over sacked DG Anohu Amazu
The office of the National Pension Commission came under surveillance of the Department of State Services in Abuja on Friday. The secret police stormed the office, following an allegation that its former Director General, Mrs. Chinelo Anohu- Amazu, refused to hand over to her successor.
Anohu-Amazu, who was fired by President Muhammadu Buhari last week, was alleged to have been giving out instructions to the workers as of Friday.
SUNDAY PUNCH gathered that the DSS operatives were unable to locate her whereabouts, but it was also learnt that they had asked her to report at the DSS office in Abuja on Monday.
There had been unconfirmed reports that the dismissed DG claimed that she had yet to be informed of her sacking and that this was why she was still coming to work.
An official of the DSS, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “We will expect her to come to our office on Monday and inform us why she had refused to vacate office despite her sacking.”
Meanwhile, Anohu-Amazu will on Monday formally hand over the affairs of the commission to the newly appointed DG of PenCom, a top official in the commission told one of our correspondents on Saturday on condition of anonymity.
The source said while the Anohu-Amazu had learnt of her sacking as PenCom DG in the media, she didn’t receive any letter to that effect until 5:45pm on Friday.
The source said upon getting the letter on Friday evening, the sacked PenCom DG informed some of the commissioners in the agency of her desire to hand over but was advised to do so on Monday morning.
The source said, “Anohu-Amazu knew of her sacking as PenCom DG in the media on Wednesday but a copy of her letter of termination of appointment was not received until late on Friday.
“It was at about 5:45pm that she got a copy of her letter of termination of appointment as PenCom DG.
“When the letter came, she informed some commissioners about the development and the need to quickly hand over but she was advised that it was late and she could do it properly on Monday.
“So, by Monday, she will properly hand over. It is not true that she didn’t want to hand over.
“She was appointed through a letter and it is only fair for her to also see a letter terminating her appointment before she can properly hand over.
“How could she have handed over when she had not received any letter terminating her appointment?”
But a top official, on Saturday, denied raiding the PenCom office, adding that it only prevented tampering with documents
It stated, “We did not conduct any raid on PENCOM office. What we did was to put a standby team at the office to prevent anybody from tampering with or altering any document unlawfully or without due process.
“We had intelligence that some documents were being tampered with, some documents were being signed and backdated at the PenCom office, following the announcement of a new management of the commission.
“We are only being pro-active by ordering all officials there to stop forthwith any action on official documents pending when the new management will assume duty. “

Nigerian Pastor Tim Omotoso may spend the next 12 days in jail as South African court denies him bail over allegations of sexual assaults againt 30 female church members
Nigerian-born founder of Jesus Dominion International headquartered in Durban, South Africa, Pastor Tim Omotoso, may spend the next 12 days behind bars, it has emerged. Omotoso was arrested on Thursday afternoon at the Port Elizabeth Airport shortly after arrival from Durban.
He was denied bail by a court last Friday after arraignment over allegations of sexual assaults against at least 30 ladies in his church.
The 58-year-old, according to The Herald, a South African newspaper, quickly disappeared to the toilet with an unidentified woman seconds after arrival.
But police operatives traced him to the toilet where he was handcuffed and bundled away to massive cheers by onlookers.
“Within minutes of the first passengers disembarking, police rushed on to the tarmac. But Omotoso was seen walking into the toilets minutes earlier, accompanied by a woman,” the paper reported.
The paper said that about eight heavily-armed policemen were in the airport searching for the pastor.
It said that the policemen went into the toilet, dragged out the unidentified woman before arresting Omotoso.
Omotoso’s lawyer, Terry Price, who was present at the airport, had reportedly protested, “You cannot arrest him here without a warrant!”
Price accused the South African police of maltreating Omotoso.
“They (the police) are worse than Mugabe’s thugs in Zimbabwe,” the lawyer was quoted as saying.
“Since when do you arrest an unarmed pastor with eight armed men? He is not a danger.”
Robert Netshiunda, a spokesperson of the Tactical Response Team, TRT, the special police unit that arrested Omotoso later said: “We can’t say he wanted to run. We can say he sought refuge in the toilets.”
The police alleged that Omotoso over the years trafficked about 30 young women from various branches of his church to a house in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal where he allegedly exploited them sexually.
Omotoso is not new to sexual allegations. The multi-talented preacher was founder of All Youth Crusade Ministry on Liberty road, Ibadan in the 90s.
But the thriving church disintegrated over sexual charges against Omotoso, a former music director of Ebenezer Obey’sDecross Band & Inter Reformers’ Band in the 80s.
He was dogged by the same scandal in the UK from where he relocated to South Africa.
But South Africa’s branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on authorities to follow due process in the handling of the case.
CAN expressed fears that Omotoso’s arrest might trigger more anti-Nigerian sentiment in South Africa.
