Edo Moves To Constitute New Pension Board

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has disclosed plans by his administration to constitute new pension board for the state. The governor, who said this in Benin City during an interactive session with the newly appointed Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), said the development was aimed at implementing an efficient pension system in the state. While giving assurance that the PFAs of government support in ensuring quality service delivery to the workers, who are currently keying into the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), he said the state had proposed to own service centres in designated areas across the state, and constitute a new pension board that is expected to work side by side with the PFAs in terms of support and sharing of experience.

The state government recently appointed 15 PFAs to enroll the civil servants for the new contributory pension scheme.
While calling on the PFAs to work closely with the workers and also lecturing them on the benefits of the scheme, Obaseki said their selection was based on trust and quality of service.
The governor pointed out that the state government had set up a technical committee, which is expected to create a smooth take off of the scheme, adding that members of the committee were drawn from the state government, labour and representatives from PFA.
Obaseki also called on the pension managers to secure offices within Benin City so that the workers can access them whenever they have challenges.
“We are going to conduct an inspection, and only those who are eligible, properly settled here and can respond by providing the required services would be given the bulk of the accounts of the enrollees to handle,’’ he noted.
