African Voices to feature Nigeria’s Polo queen, Neku Atawodi this weekend

African Voices on CNN, sponsored by Globacom, will this weekend focus on the story of the world’s only active black female professional polo player, Nigeria-born Uneku Atawodi, aka Neku. Globacom in a statement in Lagos said the 28 year-old Neku would be on the CNN magazine programme alongside two other guests, Bianca Buitendag of Victoria Bay, South Africa, and Shehzana Anwar of Nairobi, Kenya, who have also distinguished themselves in African Sports.
A Bachelor of Science degree holder in Equestrian Science, Neku also obtained a Masters Degree in International Business, in addition to British Horse Society stage 4 riding accreditation.
Viewers will surely enjoy the details of her professional career in polo which started when she fell in love with horses at age 13. Her interest in Polo, a game largely dominated by men, was kindled by her fascination with “the smell of dirty leather.” Neku who has represented Nigeria at the Federation of International Polo tournaments in her fourteen years professional career is gradually growing into a legend in the game.
