NBS Price Watch Report on Petrol, Kerosene and Diesel across the country

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) - Petrol

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday released its Premium Spirit (PMS) price watch for the month of December.

Kwara, Bayelsa and Kebbi states emerged as the states with the highest petrol price in the country, at N152 naira per litre. To our surpirse, states in the northern extremes of the country such as Sokoto and Borno had petrol selling for N146.4 and N145 naira respectively.

Petrol prices were lowest in Lagos, Oyo and Akwa Ibom States at N144 per litre.Year on Year, petrol prices went up 22% for the period between December 2015 and December 2016. The average price for petrol across states in the country was N147 per litre.

Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) - Kerosene

In the December Household Kerosene price watch released yesterday by the NBS, Abia State had the highest average price of kerosene in the country at N232 naira per litre.

The state with the lowest average price for kerosene in the country was Sokoto State at N180 naira per litre. The average price per litre across the states was N211 per litre. Lagos State had an average price of N250 naira per litre during the period under review.

Year on Year, kerosene prices dropped 11% between December 2015 to December 2016. Kerosene prices was N261.18 in December 2015 compared to a price of N231.85 in December 2016. Average price of a gallon was N809.8 in December 2015 compared to a price of about N1032.59 in December 2016.

Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO) - Diesel

In the recently released Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) Diesel price watch for December 2016 by the National Bureau Of Statistics (NBS), diesel prices in Zamfara were the most expensive in the country at N211 naira per litre.

Abuja, Yobe and Gombe states had the lowest average diesel price in the country at N180 naira per litre. Lagos state, home to the ports through which diesel is imported in the country, had prices had than the national average at N197 naira per litre.

Diesel prices went up 19% Year on Year between December 2015 and December 2016. The average price for diesel across states in the country was N196 naira per litre.
